An Amazing Christmas House!

In New York you truly never know what you’re going to get. That was certainly true as I was looking out the window of the car in the Baychester part of the Bronx. What did I see? A house that was definitely in the Christmas spirit. Not yet lit up, I spotted all the decorations from a distance. I immediately asked for a detour because I had to see this house closer.
I got really excited once we parked the car. There was so much to see and take in. There were a ton of mannequins outside, many covered in plastic. There was even a white Steinway piano. On the roof was a huge nativity scene. As I walked the perimeter of the house I noticed more displays including Superman on the roof holding Lois Lane. A few people started to walk around the house in awe.

Next thing I know a man comes outside and begins to take the plastic off the mannequins. I knew I had to stay to watch it all comes to life. He then began to bring more mannequins outside and turn them on. Many either began to dance or move their heads. A woman also came out and began helping set everything up. Music began to come threw the speakers and the lights came on as it got darker outside. The crowd was growing bigger and bigger.
Typically this is something you see on the news, so I thought this had to be on the internet somewhere. I sat in the car to warm up while they set everything up. I began to look up information on this house and of course I found it. Turns out this house is the Garabedian house. They started decorating their house in the 70s. From Thanksgiving till Jan. 6th, the Epiphany, they bring out all the figurines and put on a show right in front of their house, weather permitting of course.

It is obvious they put a lot of love and detail into the display. The costumes are elaborate and they are always adding to the collection. I even spotted a few celebrity figures that included Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, and Audrey Hepburn. For those that love cartoons, I spotted Belle and the Beast dancing, The Chipmunks, and even Donald Duck, who was hanging out on the roof.
What I realized was that not only do they set this display up every day during the holidays, but they also have to take it down every night! It is not just placing mannequins and turning on some lights it is much more labor intensive then that! I saw the gentleman with a power tool making sure they were all stable. The lady cleaning off the mannequins and plugging them in. They were also adding amazing pieces to their outfits.

After warming up and finding out information I began to walk around the house once again! The crowd got very big. Traffic began to form in front of the house from those driving down Pelham Parkway. If you look down on the red carpet you will notice money all around. I found out that the money actually goes to charity. Not only does this family share the Christmas Spirit on their dime and time for all, but they donate the money. Of course I took some money out to be slipped through the fence. I got a lot of enjoyment and happiness out of their hard work!
So if you get the opportunity, go by the Garabedian house during the holidays. It is an amazing sight to see. They are located at 1605 Pelham Parkway North. You won’t be disappointed! This place truly is an amazing Christmas house!
