App of the Month: SkyScanner

One of the biggest expenses when traveling is purchasing a plane ticket. There are so many different websites that show airfares that constantly checking them for that perfect fare can become daunting. Of course there is an app to help aid the task of finding a great flight deal, SkyScanner! Hopefully this will help to check off that long list of places to visit.

SkyScanner

SkyScanner is a free app. The best way to get great deals on flights is to be flexible. Being flexible not just with dates, but destinations will help with getting great deals. The app allows you to put in your airport and choose Everywhere. Choosing this will show a bunch of different options and the lowest priced fares they have found.

SkyScanner

SkyScanner then gives you more options. If there are certain dates that are preferable then put them in. If there is a particular month that holds interest then the app will allow you to choose the month. There is also an overview to see the best fares for the year. A price watch is available if there are specific trip details.

SkyScanner

When attempting to choose the best flight, the app will not only inform of the price, but what airline, how many stops, flying time, which is the shortest trip time, and where to purchase this great deal. It can also sort flights by the above if arriving quickly is a goal, have a preference of what time to fly out, etc. There is also away to see a quick comparison on prices for flights and how to get the best bang for your buck.

SkyScanner

SkyScanner

SkyScanner is a great app to use. It is something that should be used to help look for a great fare for your next flight. It is very simple to use and will help spend your money more at the destination rather than solely on trying to get there. This is why the app of the month is SkyScanner!

Have you ever used SkyScanner? What is the best deal you have gotten by using it?

Totally agree – it’s an excellent app and is the first place we go to for flight information. We’re always impressed at the extent of flights included which not other similar sites do – eg it includes budget airlines like Air Asia, Easyjet and Ryanair.

It is def a great place to start researching. Yes, they include who they are partnered with, which is why it is important to keep options open.

Thank you for a solid overview of Skyscanner app. It is a good tool to begin your research. Unlike numerous apps, it does include some budget and regional airlines, which is a big plus. The results also vary depending on location. Obviously, larger well-known destinations are well covered, but in a case of smaller regional airports it might produce less desirable results. Do not take me wrong, Skyscanner is an app that should not be overlooked. However, I generally use it as a first step to narrow down results to 4-5 top choices. Then, I compare these choices with a direct search on airlines’ websites to make sure to catch any “flash sales” or specials that airlines might not share with aggregators like Skyscanner and others. In a case of smaller locations like some county (in the US) or provincial (in the rest of Americas) airports, aggregators fail to be very effective because mom-and-pop airlines’ budgets are too tight to pay for inclusion in aggregators’ databases.

It is a great place to begin. I certainly wouldn’t stop there, but you never know what you may find.

I’m also a big fan of Skyscanner. I love the filtering/sort capabilities and also how many innovative flight combinations they manage to find. A great timesaver too! Very comprehensive review too

I’ve been using skyscanner for ages, although most of the times I do it on the computer and not using the app. It’s a great tool.

With google flights coming into play, skyscanner is much slower searching but has some things that google flights doesn’t offer.

I do use Skyscanner to get a rough idea of how much a flight may cost me, but eventually buy my flights at a trusted travel agency. Although apps like this are useful, nothing can beat softwares such as Amadeus and Galileo when looking for flights.

That is great too! Skyscanner usually leads you to a site to purchase it anyway. It is a great way to gauge how much a flight may cost and is a great starting point.

I find Skyscanner certainly super useful and I love their everywhere option which, when you are flexible, can give great insights into what’s available and cheaper, this is how I booked my recent trip to Sri lanka during a holiday weekend.

Thanks for introducing Skyscanner to me. After buying our maximum timeshare points, it is airfare that is now our biggest cost expense. It is the one which we have to tame if we want to optimize our timeshare points.

I actually have been using Skyscanner interchangeably with Kayak just so I can ensure that I get the best deals. The thing I love the most about Skyscanner is that it can show me the cheapest fares on the destination that I’m going to even if it’s not the exact place I’m planning to land since then it also helps me rethink my budget for my air ticket. 😀

I love Skyscanner and I have posted on how I am a huge advocate of it. I love the Everywhere feature and if I know I want to go somewhere for specific dates but have no clue where, I use Skyscanner. I actually scan a few times a week.
