I was scrolling through my twitter timeline (@hollydayztravel) when I saw Food & Wine Magazine’s twitter talking about ice cream sandwiches. That automatically made me think of Diddy Riese in California.
It’s summer time and usually very hot in California, especially in the Valley. Going there is most certainly not a quick trip either from the Valley, as Diddy Riese is located in Westwood, which is UCLA’s college town. It is beautiful down there. You can even catch red carpet events happening right outside of Diddy Riese sometimes.
When you go to Diddy Riese, expect a long line! Seriously, this is not your ordinary run of the mill ice cream and cookies. You could stand on that line for a while. The place isn’t very big, but the line moves at a decent pace. You can pick any 2 cookies you want and any ice cream to make your perfect ice cream sandwich. They also sell shaved ice, brownies, and more.
Check out the virtual ice cream sandwich maker on their website: http://diddyriese.com/sandwichbuilder.php
Keep in mind to come with cash because they don’t take credit or debit cards. In case you forget, there is an ATM outside.
You would think this place would be expensive, but nope. You can get an ice cream sandwich for $1.75. That is a pretty good price. Every time I order one I usually get two chocolate chip cookies and mint chocolate chip ice cream. They put the ice cream sandwich in a cup and stick a spoon in it because it is pretty big.
Since I make long drives there I also take home some cookies. The day old ones are cheap and still taste amazing. I also grab a bottle of water which is $1. After all that chocolate I need something refreshing to drink and I am not a milk person.
Diddy Riese has the best ice cream sandwiches I have ever had. Certainly the best in LA. Definitely worth the trip!
