Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, LA

When going to New Orleans, especially if you have never been there, you must visit Cafe Du Monde. I hadn’t been in years, but recently had the pleasure of going. It brought back many memories from when I was younger as I indulged in their infamous beignets.

Cafe Du Monde was first established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The first and main one can be found in the French Quarter at 800 Decatur Street. There are also 8 other Cafe Du Mondes located around New Orleans, but you should go to the original one if it is your first time! The original is also open 24 hours a day and is only closed on Christmas, so there is no excuse on missing out.

Cafe Du Monde is known for their coffee and beignets. Beignets are fried dough covered with powered sugar. They come in orders of 3 and are $2.50 per order. The coffee with chicory is served Au Lait which is mixed half and half with hot milk. Although this is what they are known for, you can get coffee the way you would like, including decaffeinated.

There is typically a long line that goes down the block to get into the main location. The line moves relatively quickly. When you walk in you may have someone find you a seat or you may be stuck looking for a table. Once you find a seat it may be some time before someone comes and cleans it off and takes your order.

Don’t forget to bring cash. As soon as they bring you your order, you must pay. If you don’t want to dine in you can get on the take out line. You can also buy the mix and coffee from there. Across the street is the Cafe Du Monde company store. They have beignet mix, different kinds of Cafe Du Monde coffee, t-shirts, magnets, and so much more. Cafe Du Monde is a staple in New Orleans. It is a must go when visiting. You won’t regret it.

Have you ever been to Cafe Du Monde? How was your experience?

I loved my experience with Cafe Du Monde when I was in New Orleans! There’s very little that I enjoy more than food, and those beignets were so on point! I need to get back there – it’s been far too long since I’ve had that goodness.

I went here before and I loved their beginets! I think the key is to not wear black while eating them, Trust me I know!

I think that is a great tip! All that powdered sugar on black clothes isn’t fun.

It’s the only place that I must have to visit every time I’m in the city. The fight for tables/service are sometimes annoying, but it’s always worth it!

Yea, that can be a bit annoying, but it really is worth it. Cafe Du Monde is a staple despite those trying to be like them.
