Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans, LA

When going to New Orleans, especially if you have never been there, you must visit Cafe Du Monde. I hadn’t been in years, but recently had the pleasure of going. It brought back many memories from when I was younger as I indulged in their infamous beignets.

Cafe Du Monde was first established in 1862 in the New Orleans French Market. The first and main one can be found in the French Quarter at 800 Decatur Street. Cafe Du Monde is known for their coffee and beignets. Beignets are fried dough covered with powered sugar. They come in orders of 3 and are $2.50 per order. The coffee with chicory is served Au Lait which is mixed half and half with hot milk. Although this is what they are known for, you can get coffee the way you would like, including decaffeinated.

There is typically a long line that goes down the block to get into the main location. The line moves relatively quickly. When you walk in you may have someone find you a seat or you may be stuck looking for a table. Once you find a seat it may be some time before someone comes and cleans it off and takes your order.
