Fitness Travel Adventures

Sometimes people find it really difficult to work out or stay in shape while traveling. You’re so busy eating all the amazing food and exploring, that typically fitness is not the first thing on your mind. With this being said, it then comes as no surprise to find that some people may decide to use gadgets like a Fitbit to keep track of their progress.

I have gone hiking to a waterfall, standup paddle-boarding, pole fitness, and even went to an Adventure Park that made me sore a couple of days after while traveling. It got me thinking what other different, yet fun fitness activities others have done. So I spoke to a few bloggers who let me in on their fitness travel adventures that they have experienced. Maybe it will entice you to try one of these out on your next trip.

SUP with Pam of Lost But Making Good Time Austin, TX is a great place to do anything outside. Gorgeous hills, so many water features. It’s amazing. The Colorado River runs through the middle of town and is dammed up somewhere to decrease the current so its a great place for water sports. Any kind of rowing boat and SUP! I love SUP. You are getting such a great workout but it doesn’t feel like work. Whenever I’m in Austin, I’ll go rent a board, ask for the plastic sun salutations routine, paddle out and go through the motions a few times. It’s peaceful, it’s zen, it’s a great workout. I have experience in yoga and SUP but I’m not where near like a teach level. But I do the best I can.

Hiking with Erica of Trippin Twins We like to take day trips in the summer to places where we can take advantage of the warm weather and outdoor activities to stay active. We recently took a day-trip to hike to Marta’s Falls and the swimming hole near them. This area is part of the Little River Canyon National Preserve, which is located in northeast Alabama, as part of Lookout Mountain. To reach the swimming hole, you have to complete a mile hike on rough terrain. If you are unfamiliar with the area, it can be tricky to find. Once you find the correct parking lot, the trail entrance is unmarked. This is a popular area though, so there is always someone around to ask. After getting directions, we started our hike. The first part is flat and easy to follow, with mostly just a dirt path. The second half was much more difficult, consisting mostly of uneven and unstable rocks. This made for a very challenging hike, which is more like a climbing experience. To reach the swimming hole, you have to jump or climb down a steep rocky cliff, which makes jumping in the water a nice ending. This hike is a great workout, but not suggested for the timid. A level of fitness is necessary to make it to the end. The waterfalls and swimming hole are your rewards for the workout!

Yoga in the Park with Marissa of Little Things Travel

Traveling is certainly not an excuse to be less active. I find that sometimes I’m even more active when traveling, and it’s typically a lot more enjoyable than being active at home! When I visited Dallas, Texas over a long weekend, I discovered they offered free yoga in Klyde Warren Park every Saturday morning. I am definitely not a yoga expert, but the instructor from the Dallas Yoga Center teaching the class was excellent at accommodating for all experience levels. Doing yoga outside while feeling the light breeze and warm sun on my skin helped me connect more with nature and with myself than I ever have before. Trying new activities, or familiar ones in new places, can sometimes help you see in a new way and can make staying fit a whole lot more fun!

Whenever traveling see if you can do some fun activity that will get those muscles working and blood flowing. You can do so many different fitness activities and really have a good time. You may even make some new friends in the process. There are a ton of fitness activities to do and I look forward to doing more.
