Fitness Travel Adventures
Sometimes people find it really difficult to work out or stay in shape while traveling. You’re so busy eating all the amazing food and exploring, that typically fitness is not the first thing on your mind. With this being said, it then comes as no surprise to find that some people may decide to use gadgets like a Fitbit to keep track of their progress.
I have gone hiking to a waterfall, standup paddle-boarding, pole fitness, and even went to an Adventure Park that made me sore a couple of days after while traveling. It got me thinking what other different, yet fun fitness activities others have done. So I spoke to a few bloggers who let me in on their fitness travel adventures that they have experienced. Maybe it will entice you to try one of these out on your next trip.
SUP with Pam of Lost But Making Good Time Austin, TX is a great place to do anything outside. Gorgeous hills, so many water features. It’s amazing. The Colorado River runs through the middle of town and is dammed up somewhere to decrease the current so its a great place for water sports. Any kind of rowing boat and SUP! I love SUP. You are getting such a great workout but it doesn’t feel like work. Whenever I’m in Austin, I’ll go rent a board, ask for the plastic sun salutations routine, paddle out and go through the motions a few times. It’s peaceful, it’s zen, it’s a great workout. I have experience in yoga and SUP but I’m not where near like a teach level. But I do the best I can.
Hiking with Erica of Trippin Twins We like to take day trips in the summer to places where we can take advantage of the warm weather and outdoor activities to stay active. We recently took a day-trip to hike to Marta’s Falls and the swimming hole near them. This area is part of the Little River Canyon National Preserve, which is located in northeast Alabama, as part of Lookout Mountain. To reach the swimming hole, you have to complete a mile hike on rough terrain. If you are unfamiliar with the area, it can be tricky to find. Once you find the correct parking lot, the trail entrance is unmarked. This is a popular area though, so there is always someone around to ask. After getting directions, we started our hike. The first part is flat and easy to follow, with mostly just a dirt path. The second half was much more difficult, consisting mostly of uneven and unstable rocks. This made for a very challenging hike, which is more like a climbing experience. To reach the swimming hole, you have to jump or climb down a steep rocky cliff, which makes jumping in the water a nice ending. This hike is a great workout, but not suggested for the timid. A level of fitness is necessary to make it to the end. The waterfalls and swimming hole are your rewards for the workout!
Whenever traveling see if you can do some fun activity that will get those muscles working and blood flowing. You can do so many different fitness activities and really have a good time. You may even make some new friends in the process. There are a ton of fitness activities to do and I look forward to doing more.
What fitness travel adventures have you had?

Too often sneakers are the first thing to go when I think about how to downsize so I can get the most in a weekender or carryon bag. I really should try some of these workouts that allow me to still exercise but don’t require certain footwear.
Holly Dayz
SUP and yoga don’t require footwear so you can continue to ditch the sneakers!

Nice adventures! I would love to more activities like this while traveling. I’m looking for Yoga in the park in the Dallas area. Let me know if you come across any options.
Holly Dayz
Maybe Marissa knows of some others. Otherwise I am sure you can look them up to fit your time frame.

I have seen people work out when traveling and that’s a good thing. Finding the time to take all that good food off is a must
Holly Dayz
I can’t go to a gym. I have to do other things. It is more fun. Great way to get off all the food!

I always have good intentions. However I usually cop out for other things but occasionally I do use the hotel gym. Most of the the time I walk everywhere so that counts for something.
Holly Dayz
I think in all my travels I have gone to a hotel gym and actually worked out once. And yes it does count for something.

Hiking and yoga are my favorite things to do. I’m heading to Dallas shortly and I will have to find out the deets for yoga in the park.
Holly Dayz
Perfect. I would love to hear about your hiking and yoga adventures.

I love that you’ve include non-traditional exercise. Now I’m motivated to actually get moving on my next trip.
Holly Dayz
There is so much to do besides going to the gym. It can be both fun and active.
glamstyledivas
I’ve really got to step out of the box. I’m so quick to just run down to the hotel gym to get my fit on.
Holly Dayz
Doesn’t hurt to try something different. You may discover more about you.

I never pack work out clothes or sneakers while on vacation. I totally know better yet I’ve not done it. I will keep this in mind.
Christine K. St.Vil (@MomsNCharge)
LOL You and I are in the same boat Mimi. If walking or dancing is a workout then that’s usually as active as I’ll get. But I am looking forward to an upcoming trip and we shall see what it holds 🙂
Holly Dayz
Well you don’t really have to pack those depending on where you are going. I went and did SUP all I needed was a bathing suit.
Tyra
I make it a point not to work on when traveling (maybe I should work on that) so these activities are great ideas on ways to stay active in other ways
Holly Dayz
Well you don’t have to workout. You can do an activity that is the equivalent.
