The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark

There is a new waterpark that has just opened this year in Upstate New York that I have had my eye on. I have actually not been to a waterpark that I can recall. As a little kid, sure but as an adult, nope. So I was happy to go check this place out.

The Kartrite Resort and Indoor Waterpark is located in Monticello, New York. If you live in the tri-state area this is perfect and it is a nice ride. It took about a couple of hours to get there thanks to good ole New York City traffic. It is also located in the same area as the Resort World Casino Catskills. So if you want to get your gamble on, go for it.

Having a car is pretty important. To get here you more than likely drove although there is an airport not too far out. We found that about 20 minutes from Kartrite there were plenty of shopping and food options. However there are places to shop and eat in Monticello. It has a small town vibe.

We were planning to get there a bit earlier than check-in because you can go to the waterpark even if your room isn’t ready. However we arrived after check-in time which is at 5pm. Looking from the outside of the property it doesn’t look like much, give it a chance! Once inside you will feel different.

The lobby was very nice and spacious. We didn’t have to wait long to check-in. The gentleman checking us in stepped in the back to speak to someone so we knew there was an issue. We found out the room we booked was now no longer available. They were all taken.

He then tells us he will upgrade us after telling us he couldn’t, to a double queen room. We let him know that wasn’t an upgrade. We specifically picked a king room because of the layout and the price of both rooms when booking were the same, so to the back he went again. Afterwards we all agreed on a room with a patio, but it ended up being a double queen room.

Rooms

The hotel has a lot of different rooms. This place is definitely for families. Kartrite has up to 3 bedroom suites and family bunk suites. Some have balconies and patios. There are 324 rooms at the resort.

Our room was on the first floor which is below the lobby area. It is where the arcade, food areas, and access to the waterpark is. Taking this all in, it was a very busy area. One of the most active hotel hallways I’d ever seen.

At check-in we all received wristbands. So all you have to do is tap your wrist and get into the room. Honestly, all hotels should have this and just do away with the room key card. It makes things much simpler. No forgetting your room key. Plus it gets you into the waterpark.

Upon entering the room we noticed it was spacious. The sink and vanity were right as you walk in with the bathroom to the left. The bathroom had a really squeaky door that housed the toilet and shower. I did like the colors of the shower curtain and that they had a clothes line to hang up your wet stuff from the waterpark.

There were shampoo, conditioner, and body wash bottles in the shower/tub combo. Unfortunately, there was no body wash in the bottle. I had also wished there was a small trash can in the bathroom or even by the sink. The trash cans were on the other side of the room. There was also one for recyclables.

There was a nice sized television. A safe was below it. The room also has a microwave and mini fridge, which I also wish every hotel had. There was also a coffee maker with k-cups. The dresser area extended out into a little table area. It would have been great if there was a chair to sit at. If you wanted to sit at the table you would have to pull up one of the ottomans.

There was a pull out sofa with some decorative pillows and 2 ottomans. There was only one table and it was in between the beds. It was great to see they not only had outlets, but USB outlets. There were plenty of outlets all over the room.

The beds were comfortable. Our only gripe was they weren’t true queens. The bed was more full sized. One turn and someone was going to hit the floor. The bed is pretty high up too. The pillows were hard when you initially laid on them but, then you just sunk into them and that felt great.

We had a patio, but didn’t get to really utilize it. There was a truck parked right outside of it till late in the night. It was being loaded with blue bins when we got back from the waterpark. We weren’t interested in a view of a truck so we just stayed in the room.

Indoor Waterpark

The waterpark looks like it is housed in an airplane hanger or something. Which as a traveler is pretty cool to me. It is a nice 84 degrees inside. The price of the park is included in your stay.

There are 4 slides and 7 water attractions. Lifeguards are in abundance as they pace back and fourth in their designated areas watching over everyone. The line to some of the slides would have moved faster if they had one person designated to each one rather than one person doing 2 or 3 at a time. Kudos to the workers!

The slides were fun and it looked like they were in the works of building a couple of more. This is great because you can only do the same ones over and over for so long. The lazy river is pretty cool, although not very lazy. It moved rapidly, which gave it a bit more of a ride feel. The only thing was some kids were swimming in it rather than being in a tube and trying to purposely knock people over. They do have a pool if you would like to swim.

Cabana ©2019 HollyDayz

The waterpark is great for kids and they will have a blast. There are cabanas around the waterpark. The price is a bit steep. There are plenty of tables and chairs around. There are also lockers that can be rented to store your belongings.

We walked over to the Surfside Grille, inside the waterpark, to check the prices on the food. The prices were not too far off New York City prices. We saw a lot of people walking around with entire boxes of pizza.

Hotel Amenties

Kartrite has many amenities. There is Wi-Fi with no limit to how many devices you can use. It took a few calls to the front desk for us to get the password for it since it was not given during check-in. The Wi-Fi is apart of the $35 a night resort fee.

Buffet ©2019 HollyDayz

There are many dining options so you don’t have to leave the property. However we didn’t eat at any of them. There is a buffet, which if you have a lot of people it can add up quickly. We left the property and had some great food at a fraction of the price for 3 people. We even had leftovers that we were able to heat up in the room.

They have Sweat Fitness if you were looking to workout, but it is extremely small. When we went to go check it out there were two teenage boys working out in their boxers. There is also the Chill Spa. Their services include facials, massages, nails, and more for you and the little ones.

They have a nice looking arcade and mini bowling alley. I also saw a futuristic rock climbing wall, zip lining, and mini indoor adventure park. A 3D experience, laser tag, and VR is also there. If you want your kids to run around in the area, you can pop a squat at the bar and chill out.

Kartrite also has movie nights in the lobby area which is pretty cool. They also have daily activities. We ran across some sand art going on. They give you a full itinerary when you check-in on the daily happenings. Some activities I saw on the list were Bingo, face panting, and donut decorating.

There is a huge courtyard area. I spotted an oversized Connect 4 and chess/checkers. There were 2 fire-pit areas and s’mores can be made. I wish they had a couple of more fire-pits, because both were very full.

There are some outdoor trails that we would have liked to check out. It did rain a few times while we were there. So many of the things being inside was great!

A Splash Pass can be purchased were you can go to the waterpark for the day and not stay at the hotel. At $79 per person, it is cheaper to just get a room. Especially if you have more than 2 people.

For adults you can either join in on all the fun or let the kids do their thing while you sit back and watch. They have places to sit and relax or grab a drink.

Overall it was a nice experience. I would like to go back and do some of the things I didn’t get the opportunity to do before. I would also like to check out the other rooms, especially the one we had originally booked. This is a great place for kids.
