Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center

While visiting the Hershey & Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania we stayed at Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center. Set in an area made up of history, nature, and chocolate, you really can’t go wrong. It was a nice choice for many reasons.

Location

The hotel is located in Harrisburg, PA. It is about 20 minutes away from Hershey, PA and 15 minutes or so from the downtown area of Harrisburg. Having a car in this area is pretty important. If you didn’t drive there like we did then renting a car is essential. The Uber/Lyft prices to get around will definitely add up.

The area is filled with many stores and places to eat including many chain spots like Wendy’s, The Waffle House, Chipotle, Starbucks, Rita’s and much more. Of course there are also local places all over to try as well. The great thing to know is that whatever you may be in the mood for or if you are in a hurry there is plenty around.

Driving from the New York City area to the hotel we anticipated some traffic. We were lucky enough to not run into anything major and arrived at the hotel earlier than we thought. Upon arrival at the hotel I saw a beautiful lobby.  I even saw twinkly lights and Hershey Kisses suspended above. Off to the left side was a full front desk counter. At first they came off with a bit of an attitude and let me know that there was no way my room was ready. They then did an actual check and told me that it wasn’t, but that it would be ready in about 45 minutes.

I told them I would be back in about an hour or so. We drove over and got some food and then came back. When I came back the room was ready and the gentleman that checked me in was much nicer. After giving me a map and room keys, I headed back to the car and we drove around back to get to our room as the hotel has many entrances. Therefore you don’t have to go through the lobby every time you need to get to your room.

Rooms

The hotel has of course king and double queen rooms. The room we had was a combination of the both. It was a 2 bedroom family room. Upon entry there is a nice large space with 2 queen sized beds. There was a nice comfy chair, a table with a couple of chairs and a nice 42 inch television. The window faced out onto the indoor pool.

To the right was another spacious room with a chair, desk, and a king sized bed and another 42 inch television. The window in that room also looked out onto the indoor pool. There was also a little area with a microwave, and mini fridge. These two items definitely came in handy. There was also a mirror and sink outside of the bathroom and another inside the bathroom with toilet, tub, and shower.

It was a really nice spacious room. Ample room for a family. The beds were very comfortable. A few times upon entering the room, it smelled of chlorine. It was a strong smell, but upon turning on the air in room it quickly went away. There were also plenty of outlets all around and good closest space.

Hotel Amenities

The hotel has many amenities. There is a heated indoor pool that is open from 10am – 10pm. Great time frame to get some swimming in at some point before or after exploring. We were able to get in after a day out and about.  The pool goes up to about 7 feet which is also pretty great.

Next to the pool is a fitness center. It is a nice space with treadmills, weights, and more. There is also a game room. I thought this was pretty awesome. Some claws, air hockey table, and other games were in there. Great for the kids or the kid in you! There was also a laundry area, but the dryers didn’t dry well so we ended up hanging up things in the room.

There is free Wi-Fi and it works very well. The hotel has a ton of free parking. I also noticed in the lobby area there was complimentary coffee and fruit infused water. A business center is also located in the lobby area with a few computers.  Tons of seating is in the lobby and it is a really nice atmosphere.

O’Reilly’s is the on site restaurant. The breakfast buffet is $15 unless you are staying at the hotel and then it is $11. I don’t think it is worth $15 so I would only go if I was staying there, which I did. There was eggs, bacon, pastries, cereal, bread, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and some other things. I had a couple of plates of eggs, bacon, and a couple of other items.

The hotel is peaceful and it was nice to come back to after exploring the city. I literally knocked out on the comfortable bed several times. I would stay again. The location, the room, and the amenities make this a prime place to stay. I would highly recommend it.

You’ve given me a new idea of Best Western. I’ll definitely keep them in mind when booking my next trip.

Yea, they definitely delivered and we had a good time staying there.

This looks like the type of hotel my family would LOVE! We’re hoping to visit Hershey Park next summer and I will definitely booking here.

    • Holly Dayz

It is a great family hotel with all the amenities they have. Hershey Park was a lot of fun. I need to get back there.

  • terrihugg

I stayed at this hotel over ten years ago when I was in girl scouts and we took a trip to hershey Park. I remember the hotel was great back then. I’d love to experience the hotel and hershey park again as an adult.

    • Holly Dayz

Really wow, that is a major flashback then! It sounds like great memories as a kid, time for some new ones.

  • Kita

I love when a conference center hotel is welcoming and looks like more than just a place to take meetings. The breezeway and the game room says they are open to all visitors.

    • Holly Dayz

It was my first time staying at an actual “conference hotel.” You’re right it didn’t feel like one.

  • Kim

This is really nice! I love the room. It looks comfortable and clean. I like that there’s washers and dryers

    • Holly Dayz

The hotel sounds like it checks off all the boxes for the most part. My friends just visited that area and loved it and were telling us we need to check it out.

    • Holly Dayz

It is a really nice area. I hope to get back sooner rather than later.

  • Kiwi

  • Mimi Green

This looks really nice. I love going to Hershey, but I have not explored much beyond the immediate park area. I need to get out and explore a bit more.

    • Holly Dayz

Oh there is much more than just the park. I just put up a link of things to do just in the Hershey area. It isn’t even a full list there are loads more of things to do.

  • Carissa Godbott

This hotel looks great! I’ve been wanting to go to Harrisburg, PA I think we really need to research a trip!

    • Holly Dayz

I hope you get there soon. So much to see and do.

The last time I went to Hershey we had s super incredible experience. I love that its like visiting Mr. Roger’s trolley.

    • Holly Dayz

Yea, we had an awesome time. Looking forward to going back.

  • Tracie Howe

What a great idea to have a game/laundry room! I mean, that is if you plan to stick around while you’re laundry is going. This sounds like a nice place to stay.

    • Holly Dayz

I thought so too. It was really cool to see, especially the air hockey table. One of my favorites.

Why stay at an ordinary Western when you can have the Premier Best Western? Hershey / Harrisburg is definitely a car centric trip so you aren’t limited to hotels in any one area. This looks like a reasonable hotel with lots of family friendly amenities like the game room and laundry.

    • Holly Dayz

It is very car centric. This hotel was great and worked best for my family. We had a blast and really enjoyed and took advantage of the indoor pool.

  • Andi

The brown decor matches the food that it celebrates! Hershey is such a fun town to visit and looks like this is a great hotel to stay in while doing so.

  • SherianneKay

I have been wanting to visit Hershey and never get to it. My parents swear by Best Western and I now understand why. Love the décor and the game/laundry room are a bonus for sure

  • Jenna Kvidt

Sounds like a really nice hotel! That’s so nice you had a two bedroom room—would be perfect for a family, but nice to spread out with an even smaller group, too. Always appreciate lots of outlets, as well! The area around the hotel sounds great. It’s nice to have so many shops and restaurants nearby!

  • 100cobbledroads

The bathroom looks quite small, but well designed so that it doesn’t have a cramped feel. The bedroom seems cozy and comfortable. Was the breakfast good?

  • Indrani

Such a beautiful place to stay. They have done the interiors well. Good to know the chlorine smell vanished after the AC was put on. I have stayed in couple of their properties in Czech Republic.

  • knycx

Although I have not been to Harrisburg, PA;but love the space of the bedroom, bathroom and bar area. The interior is clean and I would consider staying there if I ever was in town. Thank you!

  • authenticfoodquest

The room is huge and spacious. What a nice laundry area and game room. Laundry is something I wish more hotels offered. Certainly looks like a great spot for travelers to the Hershey & Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania.

  • Cultured Adventurer

Looks like a great option when traveling with the family – the two bedrooms offer enough space and convenience and the hotel amenities – an indoor pool, game room, laundry room etc. are a nice added bonus!

  • Lara Dunning

I’m a huge fan of the Best Western PLUS. I haven’t stayed in a Premier and I’m a little surprised that they don’t offer their guests a complimentary breakfast. When traveling with friends and family, especially girls that like to use the mirror it is so handy to have a mirror and sink outside of the bathroom area. The arcade area is nice to if you have kids with you.

An indoor pool and breakfast buffet is a requirement anytime we travel with our son. It makes feeding him and entertaining him so much easier.

  • Judaea

Mmm I said I want to go somewhere new and this got me this thinking about checking this city out

  • maraardelean

Seems like a nice place. Lovely pics! I’ve also switched to healthier life lately and training with SportMe running app and also trying hard to sneak in my running routine into my exotic destinations. It’s fascinating to always find new running routes around the word and your blog posts are a great source of inspiration.

  • Veronika

What a cool hotel. I love the kitchenette and the swimming pool. Fitness centre is great to have, I love staying in shape.

We have been looking at a visit to Hershey. Hubby is a chocoholic. So it was good to read this review. Glad for the clarification that you need to have a car. A pool was always necessary when we travelled with our children. It looks like a good size. The games room is something we have not often seen in hotels. If we are travelling on a long stay, it is always great to find self service laundry.

  • Nisha

Best western Premier seems to have the right mix of amenities for business and pleasure travelers alike. I liked the idea of games in the laundry room. This takes away the monotony of sitting there doing nothing. Indoor pool is another good idea, making the weather irrelevant. All in all looks like a great place.

  • Kirstie

That looks like a comfortable space. Nothing really striking but would be okay to stay there. Complete amenities 🙂
