While visiting the Hershey & Harrisburg area of Pennsylvania we stayed at Best Western Premier The Central Hotel & Conference Center. Set in an area made up of history, nature, and chocolate, you really can’t go wrong. It was a nice choice for many reasons.
The hotel is located in Harrisburg, PA. It is about 20 minutes away from Hershey, PA and 15 minutes or so from the downtown area of Harrisburg. Having a car in this area is pretty important. If you didn’t drive there like we did then renting a car is essential. The Uber/Lyft prices to get around will definitely add up.
The area is filled with many stores and places to eat including many chain spots like Wendy’s, The Waffle House, Chipotle, Starbucks, Rita’s and much more. Of course there are also local places all over to try as well. The great thing to know is that whatever you may be in the mood for or if you are in a hurry there is plenty around.

Driving from the New York City area to the hotel we anticipated some traffic. We were lucky enough to not run into anything major and arrived at the hotel earlier than we thought. Upon arrival at the hotel I saw a beautiful lobby. I even saw twinkly lights and Hershey Kisses suspended above. Off to the left side was a full front desk counter. At first they came off with a bit of an attitude and let me know that there was no way my room was ready. They then did an actual check and told me that it wasn’t, but that it would be ready in about 45 minutes.
I told them I would be back in about an hour or so. We drove over and got some food and then came back. When I came back the room was ready and the gentleman that checked me in was much nicer. After giving me a map and room keys, I headed back to the car and we drove around back to get to our room as the hotel has many entrances. Therefore you don’t have to go through the lobby every time you need to get to your room.
The hotel has of course king and double queen rooms. The room we had was a combination of the both. It was a 2 bedroom family room. Upon entry there is a nice large space with 2 queen sized beds. There was a nice comfy chair, a table with a couple of chairs and a nice 42 inch television. The window faced out onto the indoor pool.
To the right was another spacious room with a chair, desk, and a king sized bed and another 42 inch television. The window in that room also looked out onto the indoor pool. There was also a little area with a microwave, and mini fridge. These two items definitely came in handy. There was also a mirror and sink outside of the bathroom and another inside the bathroom with toilet, tub, and shower.
It was a really nice spacious room. Ample room for a family. The beds were very comfortable. A few times upon entering the room, it smelled of chlorine. It was a strong smell, but upon turning on the air in room it quickly went away. There were also plenty of outlets all around and good closest space.
The hotel has many amenities. There is a heated indoor pool that is open from 10am – 10pm. Great time frame to get some swimming in at some point before or after exploring. We were able to get in after a day out and about. The pool goes up to about 7 feet which is also pretty great.
Next to the pool is a fitness center. It is a nice space with treadmills, weights, and more. There is also a game room. I thought this was pretty awesome. Some claws, air hockey table, and other games were in there. Great for the kids or the kid in you! There was also a laundry area, but the dryers didn’t dry well so we ended up hanging up things in the room.
There is free Wi-Fi and it works very well. The hotel has a ton of free parking. I also noticed in the lobby area there was complimentary coffee and fruit infused water. A business center is also located in the lobby area with a few computers. Tons of seating is in the lobby and it is a really nice atmosphere.
O’Reilly’s is the on site restaurant. The breakfast buffet is $15 unless you are staying at the hotel and then it is $11. I don’t think it is worth $15 so I would only go if I was staying there, which I did. There was eggs, bacon, pastries, cereal, bread, hard-boiled eggs, yogurt, and some other things. I had a couple of plates of eggs, bacon, and a couple of other items.
The hotel is peaceful and it was nice to come back to after exploring the city. I literally knocked out on the comfortable bed several times. I would stay again. The location, the room, and the amenities make this a prime place to stay. I would highly recommend it.
