Terror Behind The Walls

Once I heard about Terror Behind The Walls at the Eastern State Penitentiary in Philly, I knew I wanted to go. It looked pretty cool. What was even more intriguing to me was that this haunted attraction would take place inside this old prison. A prison that is said to be haunted! So of course to have some Halloween fun my friend and I went.

Once again I headed down to Philadelphia from New York City. This time I took the Bolt Bus which dropped me off near the 30th street train station. Once we got over to the Eastern State Penitentiary we saw tons and tons of people lined up. I noticed they had timed entrances. There were also people walking around dressed up in costumes scaring and entertaining those on the lines.

Luckily we had Quick Passes and were able to go in at any time and skip a few lines. Of course before entertaining you have to go through security and then sign a waiver. Yup, we signed a waiver to go through a haunted house. We knew this had to be serious! Once we did that we skipped another line before we actually had to wait on one.

We got to the first interaction which was a guy who looked like a zombie telling us the rules and explaining how everything worked. They were going to be giving out lit up necklaces that opted you in for a more interactive experience. This includes being touched, pushed, grabbed, and even taken away from your group. We didn’t opt for it, but after it was all over we realized it might have even been more fun if we had, so next time!

There are 6 areas to Terror Behind The Walls. The areas are Lock Down, Machine Shop, The Infirmary, Quarantine 4D, and Break Out. Each unique, scary, and fun. People in amazing costumes and makeup were jumping out of no where, grabbing those with necklaces, and making people scream. It was so much fun. Even cooler going through the old prison. Upon entering they even ask if you want some fake blood on your face to get into the experience and take a picture of your group.

I really don’t want to give anything away so you just have to go check it out for yourselves. It is definitely worth it! Highly recommend it for Halloween fun. I would actually like to go back and take a tour of the Eastern State Penitentiary after the haunted house is over. If you are in, around, or thinking of heading to Philly in October or the beginning of November head on over to Terror Behind The Walls. You won’t be disappointed!
