Long Island, New York Nuptials

NY Wedding

A beautiful hometown wedding in New York, my hometown and the place were one of my very good friends decided to have his amazing wedding. I was able to attend and can attest to how beautiful it truly was. He and his wife have given a lot of detail on their vendors to help those planning their future nuptials.

Terence and Elize decided the best place to get married and have their reception was in Long Island, New York. I hope their beautiful wedding inspires you for your own.

What city or cities was your ceremony and reception located in?

Ceremony-Massapequa, NY

Reception-Franklin Square, NY

What made the ceremony space stand out or special?

We agreed to have our ceremony at Terence’s church the Massapequa Tabernacle because he has a deep-rooted relationship with his church and Pastor’s. The church has been very instrumental in his life as well as his parent’s life.

Since Elize came into my life they have welcomed her with open arms and welcomed her to the church family.

What made the reception space stand out or special?

New York Wedding

We got married at Sand Castle in Franklin Square, NY. We scheduled six appointments with different wedding venues. Sand Castle was the first venue we toured and as soon as we arrived, we knew it was the ONE. Now we did our due diligence and visited the other venues, but not one of them compared to Sand Castle.

Please briefly describe your ceremony and reception.

Our ceremony was simple yet elegant. Minimal flowers, unity candle, family and friends. I walked down the aisle to one of my favorite songs, “At Last” by Etta James.

Our reception was a celebration of our love, full of surprises such as a red carpet entrance, photo booth, and a martini bar with personalized drinks. We wanted to bring our families together through great music, food, fun and laughter.

What kind of cake did you have?

We got our five-layer cake from Buttercooky Bakery.

Each layer had a different flavor:

Red Velvet

Vanilla and Chocolate Marble

Cheesecake Filling

Raspberry Filling

What was your budget and guest count?

$45,000 and we had about 215 guests attend

Did you have a theme or color scheme? If so what was it?

Groomsmen-Grey & Navy Blue

Bridesmaid-Navy Blue

Flowers- Royal Blue, Fuchsia with a hint of Burnt Orange

Venue- Royal Blue, Fuchsia with a hint of Burnt Orange

What type of decor did you have?

Glamorous with a bit of elegant

Did you do any DIY projects for your ceremony or reception? If so what?

No

Bride’s most memorable moment?

Exchanging our vows! We decided to write our own and that is something I will never forget. Hearing Terence’s heartfelt vows was truly amazing and being able to tell him how I feel and pledge my life to him was an indescribable feeling. Other than that just being able to share those special moments with family and friends meant the world to me.

Groom’s most memorable moment?

Our first dance as husband and wife was very special. On our third date we went to a Kem Concert and we chose Share My Life by Kem to dance to for our first dance.

Also, I must add my wife and her Man of honor Shivon independently presented to me two different pictures of me and my father who passed away in 2016. Shivon presented me with a collage picture of different pictures of me and my father and Elize presented me a picture of me as a baby with my father. This happened before the wedding at the hotel, it definitely meant a lot to me that they made sure my dad was with me.

Is there something you wish you had done differently or didn’t stress so much about?

The only thing that we wish we realized sooner was that the date we picked was the first day of school. A lot of our friends are educators and many have children so some people couldn’t come and some had to be late.

Any tips for those planning a wedding where you did?

What worked for us was being really organized by using a wedding google doc and starting planning early so we can relax towards the end.  The biggest thing for us was securing the venue, DJ & photography/videography first.

Fellas help your fiancé and not just monetarily. Planning a wedding is a big project, so help take the pressure off of them. Teamwork really helped us out as we attacked different aspects of getting things done for the wedding.

I am sure many people have wondered what kind of options you may have and how much it will cost for a place like New York. There are many options, so this is only one.
