A Day at Nickelodeon Universe, Mall of America

We must be getting old because both my friend and I came home exhausted and bruised. We had so much fun getting on the rides at Nickelodeon Universe inside the Mall of America. If you hadn’t heard, yes, there is a theme park inside the mall. Which makes complete sense in a city like Minneapolis where the snow and cold show no mercy. Would you expect anything less than a theme park inside the largest mall in the United States? If your kids are fans of the tv network will not want to miss out on this fantastic experience.

Inside of the Mall of America is a fun time where weather doesn’t matter, Nickelodeon Universe. Although we ventured out into the cold briefly, in reality you never really have to go outside to reach the mall from the airport. We took the light rail directly into the parking level of the mall and walked right inside! The train station was a bit cold so a light jacket would suffice.

We didn’t get the opportunity to really explore the mall, but it was huge with about 4 floors and several corridors. We did run across a very cool Prince store, but it wasn’t yet open. We did peak in to try to get a glimpse. Afterwards we spotted the rides and immediately ran over to look at everything with excitement. You would have thought we were little kids as we quickly tried to find our way down to the main level.

Once we got downstairs we started trying to figure out which rides to go on. There were plenty to choose from. Being that kids were at school and it was the middle of the day during the week there weren’t many people there. Lucky us because there were no lines for any ride. Dreams come true! In fact some of the rides, my friend and I were the only ones on them, one of them was the Backyardigans Swing Along which ended up making my stomach turn, clearly a sign I am getting old.

There were so many rides we were just running aimlessly around like kids. I got really excited on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Shell Shock ride. I had sat in a Michelangelo seat, which is my favorite, and didn’t even realize it at first. It was fate. Fun ride, I should have gotten back on it! Next time!! Another ride, Brain Surge, all the flipping forward and backward multiple times was no joke. My friend said that was her favorite ride! The Pepsi Orange Streak was fun, a bit of whip-lash, but a lot of fun!

Soon after we ran over to Crazy Cars. I haven’t been in bumper cars in so long so I was happy to hop in a car. I wish the area was a bit bigger, but besides that I had a ton of fun bumping into people and swerving around. The cars has great steering and turned where I wanted it.

After Crazy Cars we decided to head on over to Fly Over America. It is a must do! Fly Over America was such an amazing experience. We waited in a room for a while watching singing pumpkins and such. We had a good ole time dancing to the music. One of the employees was enjoying watching us, he said he never seen anyone dance to the music. They had a full on Halloween edition going which was cool. Once we were in our seats we took off flying all over different parts of America. Mist sprayed us as we flew through the clouds. It all felt so real.

Being so amazed and staring at the Fly Over America map for a while we headed for SpongeBob SquarePants Rock Bottom Plunge. That ride is no joke! The drop on that thing is serious and goes straight down. I wouldn’t wear any dangling earrings if you are wearing them. I thought mine were going to come off, luckily they didn’t. Talk about a thrill!

Next up was the Dutchmen’s Deck Adventure. We didn’t do the obstacle course, but we did zip-line. It was my friend’s first time zip-lining. It took her some time before she decided to come off the platform, but when she did she enjoyed it. I love zip-lining and this was great. We zipped from one side of Nickelodeon Universe to the other and then back. It does cost an extra fee to zip-line and do the obstacle course, but if you purchase the all day bracelet they give you a discount.

After zip-lining we went down some slides. The stair climbing to get to the slides were rough. I hate stairs, but that was my work out for the day. After the first slide I climbed up to the higher slide. I was questioning myself because all the stairs were so tiring. Ironically on the way down the higher slide both my friend and I hit the same knee in the same spot. She ended up with a bruise and me a knot. War wounds well worth it!

We walked around some more laughing and joking. We even saw a really cool Lego store which I will have to stop into next time. There were a ton of other cool rides. Some weren’t running, but more reason to go back. There is something from everyone even the little kids! I am excited to go back and for anyone who is planning to go.

It was an amazing day and I hope to go back soon. It was fun seeing some character I grew up on, very nostalgic. I am sure any kid or adult would love to get on any of these rides.
