Riad Cinnamon in Marrakech, Morocco
It can be a bit difficult picking accommodations in Marrakech. There are plenty of places to choose from. I looked at plenty of locations before picking Riad Cinnamon. After staying there I am glad that is where we ended up staying because it really made the trip great!
Location
Riad Cinnamon is located about 20 – 25 minutes away from the airport. It is located in the Medina. This means that a car will only get you so far and then you will be on foot. So our transportation took us as far as they could. Then what they call a ‘guardian’, came from the hotel to meet us and help us with our bags to the hotel. Let me tell you if we had to find this on our own that probably wouldn’t have happened. The riads don’t look like much from the outside and many entrances are down alleyways.
Since it is located in the Medina there is plenty of places to shop just steps away. Bring your haggle skills because that is how it goes down here around the souks. There are also places to eat, things to see, and of course do. Just make sure you have some comfortable shoes on!
Riad Cinnamon
Once our guide Hussein walked us to the riad we were given some infamous Moroccan mint tea and delicious cookies. Once inside you can’t help, but to think wow, especially since you can’t tell what is inside from the outside. We sat in the courtyard while he made sure our rooms were ready to go since we arrived early afternoon. He also gave us a phone to use while there and set up the wi-fi on our phones as well as a Marrakesh Travel Guide app.
Although there are 5 suites in the riad we felt like we were the only ones there the majority of the time. It was pretty quiet for the most part and I only recall seeing other people once. The staff was some of the best I have ever come across. Anytime we needed anything they took care of it.
Rooms
As I said there are 5 different suites. If you have a family or group of friends you can essentially just take over the Riad. Since there were 3 of us we were given the Meknes Suite. There is a loft area that has a bed, a sitting area, and the television. There is also a big bed that can be split into 2 beds. So it made it perfect for us because everyone got their own bed.
The door into the room isn’t your typical hotel type door. It is pretty and intricate, but there is no key card or key. It can be locked from the inside or outside with a bolt, but essentially it is always accessible for anyone to enter. This made us a bit uneasy with our belongings, but we had no issues.
Once you walk into the room there is a closet that has a mini fridge, a safe, and scrabble inside of it. We did play scrabble one night for an hour or two and that was fun. The room also had a fireplace which came in handy. A couple of nights the room was cold and the heat wasn’t hitting the entire room, so they started a fire for us.
The bathroom was a nice size with double sinks and a stand up shower. The shower had shampoo, conditioner, and body wash inside of it. There was also a little seating area, a table and a couple of chairs with a window looking out onto the riad’s courtyard. I wish the TV was in the downstairs area so everyone could enjoy it on those nights when we were just awake.
The lighting is somewhat dim in the room. Not good for those trying to put on makeup. Once you open the shutters on all the windows you do get some beautiful natural lighting. An extra light in the room would have come in handy.
Riad Cinnamon’s Amenities
There is free Wi-Fi throughout and we never had any trouble with it. They also offer airport pick up and drop off for a small fee. Extremely worth it! Also as I told you before, they have apps for your iPhone or Android phone that will help guide you around. Just in case they also provide a local cell phone, one per room. This definitely came in handy!
Riad Cinnamon also provides complimentary breakfast. To make it even better you set the time of when you want to eat. You just let them know what time and they will have someone there preparing it. A couple of times we woke up later than we anticipated, but they didn’t mind an adjusted accordingly.
You can also order lunch and dinner there. Every night we ate dinner which was made fresh and specifically for us as they would ask us earlier in the day what we wanted. Although not complimentary it is a nominal fee and worth it. This came in handy considering it is easy to get lost in the Medina, we were tired, and my friend got very sick when we did eat outside of the hotel.
One of my favorite things was that they gave you unlimited Moroccan mint tea. That stuff is so good we ordered it pretty often. The would even bring it up and set it on a table outside our room for us to enjoy. The gentleman Hussein even showed us exactly how to make it. It is definitely process, but it is so good.
There is seating outside of the rooms and in the courtyard to just relax. This is especially nice during the day when they retract the roof and the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and flying around. There is also a little plunge pool. It was too cold to test that out, but I am sure in the hot months it’s a great way to cool off.
Another amenity that we all enjoyed was the rooftop. There is ample seating and great views. One clear morning we were able to see the Atlas Mountains and they looked gorgeous. That view alone warranted another trip back. We sat up there in the morning and you could see others out on rooftops at the other riads that we had no idea were around. It was also nice to sit up there in the evening taking in the sunset and sipping on some tea.
Riad Cinnamon also will set up tours, spa days, and more. They even give back Henna Cafe charity. We took them up on their tour which included a horse and carriage ride all around to the top sites in Marrakesh. Not only that, but the gentlemen driving stayed at each place and waited for us to come in and out. Also inexpensive and worth it!
Overall Riad Cinnamon was amazing. The staff alone made the trip to Marrakech great. Hussein took my friend to a pharmacy when she was sick and even purchased the medicine she needed to help her feel better. He also offered to have a doctor come that they would pay for. Not only that he walked with us through the Medina showing us around and even helping us to haggle and get better prices for items. We never got lost because he never left us.
Have you ever stayed at Riad Cinnamon?

This is everything I would expect in a riad including walking to it in the Medina…I would definitely spend a lot of time on the roof drinking some mint tea and hearing all the cool sounds and call to prayer below.
Holly Dayz
I definitely did that and enjoyed listening to the sounds in Marrakech and looking at the mountains from the rooftop.

Wow, that is an idea! Staying within the Medina would really give you the best feel of Moroccan culture. I visited the Medina in Tangier on a day trip from Malaga, Spain. And having Moroccan guides and staff to seek help from through the maze would be so cool!
Holly Dayz
It definitely did. I loved Malaga, but didn’t take the day trip to Tangier, although my friend did.

We really fancy visiting Morocco and in particular Marrakech. The hotel looks nice and calm within the centre of the Medina, like the traditional Moroccan touches to the room. The rooftop seating and views make it a nice place to relax.
Holly Dayz
It is calm for being in the center of a lot of action.

So nice to be greeted with Moroccan mint tea and delicious cookies! Riad Cinnamon looks pretty cool and I especially love their sitting area and the loft. The room looks pretty cosy and comfortable too. The Moroccan food they serve seems like a great addition in the list of positives at the hotel. Thanks for this review!
Holly Dayz
I agree. Moroccan mint tea is delicious. I bought some and brought it back to try and make just haven’t attempted it yet.

The Riad Medina seems to be strategically located. It is so convenient to emerge from the hotel and immediately get into the throbbing and pulsating shopping areas of Marrakech. The hotel in its decor seems to match the vibrant colors of the city. The sit out on the courtyard and the rooftop look great to chill as well as get good views of Marrakech. Definitely a place that spells value for money.
Holly Dayz
It is in a great location not far from anything. It was a really nice hotel, just wish the room had a little more lighting.

Looks like you are in the midst of a happening place. The shops look so colorful and actually reminds me of some of the markets in India. Morocco is on my list for so long now, I need to do something about it. :(. Riad Cinnamon looks so much like Havelis in Rajasthan.
Holly Dayz
They are colorful with a lot going on. I hope you get there soon, you will enjoy it.

What an adorable little place. I’m planning on getting to Morocco this year, and I would seriously consider staying there. That Moroccan food made my mouth water. I also like the idea of the pool, espeically if it’s as hot as I’ve heard. I’m certainly going to keep this in mind for my trip.

The service you received was incredible! It’s so sweet how thoughtful they were when your friend got sick. And to help show you around as well. I would go to this riad just because of how well they treated you.
