How To Spend 3 Days in Dublin, Ireland
I think some people would be surprised what all can be done with 3 days in Dublin, Ireland. My mother and I headed out there to do some exploring and relaxing. It was cold out, but we did get some really nice sunny days. We saw plenty and had a great time! So if you are wondering what you can do in 3 days, hopefully what we did gives you some ideas!
Day 1
We arrived in Dublin and it was pretty cold. Not too surprised though, but it was a different kind of cold. There were buses going into the city center area, but we opted for a taxi. The driver was nice, but he did say a few odd racial things that struck us funny. He also decided to tip himself when giving us change back once we got to our hotel. After checking in we headed up to our room. The room was nice, but pretty chilly and took some time to heat up.
Rather than hitting the ground running we decided to relax a bit and take a little nap. Afterwards we headed out to find the hop on hop off bus. It wasn’t where we were told it was because there is a ton of construction going on, so the stop was moved a couple blocks away on a side street. We purchased the tickets for the bus when we got on and they were good for 24 hours.
We didn’t get off the bus, instead we rode around and got to see where things were and get a feel for the city. The bus didn’t make its full loop. The driver decided his day was over and let everyone off. It was pretty cold out so after taking some pictures we hopped into a taxi to get a little closer to where we were staying and stopped into a pub to get some dinner.
Along with dinner I ordered a pint of Guinness. Not only am I not a drinker I am not a fan of beer, but you can’t come to Dublin and not try it. To my surprised it was actually pretty good and I enjoyed the taste. After dinner we walked back to the hotel to relax and get ready for the next day.
Day 2
The second day we headed out and got some breakfast, although it was more lunch than breakfast since we ordered a sandwich with chips. We knew where the bus stop for the hop on hop off bus was this time so we headed back over there. We took the bus over to Trinity College. Before heading in we stopped in a few stores and did a little shopping.

Trinity College is really beautiful, I couldn’t help but to really take in all the architecture. We headed into check out The Book of Kells, which is an illuminated manuscript containing the four Gospels in the New Testament. It is believed to have been created in 800 AD. There had many different artifacts and parts of the book blown up for you to better see and understand how it was created. Including how the colors were made to make the book.
After that we headed into the infamous Long Room in the Trinity College Library. The room is 213 ft long. There are 200,000 thousand books lining the Library. There are also busts of famous writers and philosophers. It was pretty cool to see. After leaving we did some more shopping and got back on the bus. We saw more parts of the city we hadn’t seen the day before, including The Spire, a large stainless steel monument. We were told many use it as a meeting point.
We then took the bus to the Temple Bar area. This area has many restaurants, nightlife, and hotels. We walked around a bit, checking out the area and some of the back road cobblestone streets. At this point hunger was setting in so we headed over to O’Neil to grab some food and also get a picture of the Molly Malone statue across the street from it.

Before heading back to the hotel and I made it my business to find Queen of Tarts. I was on a mission to try their Bailey’s cheesecake. Walking in there was so much goodness I wanted to try, but I stayed focus. The staff there was so nice and even assisted us in getting a taxi back to our hotel. Once we got back I indulged in the delicious cheesecake.
Day 3
On our last day in Dublin, we checked out and headed to Clontarf Castle Hotel. We headed to what was left of the breakfast buffet while we waited for a room. We were given a room earlier than we were told and handed a very nice box of chocolates when getting the room keys. The room was amazing and of course we relaxed a bit before heading out.
Once up and moving we headed over to the Guinness Storehouse which was really crowded, but still a lot of fun. Going to the Guinness Academy and learning to pour the perfect pint was awesome. Enjoying the views at the Gravity Bar wasn’t the easiest as it was extremely crowded up there. So I zoomed by quickly and got a couple of glimpses before heading down to the gift shop.
From there we headed back to Clontarf Castle for a delicious dinner and to get our stuff together since we were leaving the next morning. We relaxed and enjoyed the hotel. The next morning because we were leaving too early for the breakfast buffet, breakfast was delivered to our room. I would have preferred the buffet.
We saw and did a lot in 3 days. I saw many things from the outside including Dublin Castle, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and so much more! It was a fun time and it didn’t rain once! I would head back, so I can explore other parts of Ireland!

I have always wanted to visit Ireland, especially Dublin. My grandfather was born and raised in Donegal and then immigrated to the United States when he was 18. So Ireland is high on my list to visit. Your photographs of Dublin look so beautiful. I am amazed at the beautiful architecture in Dublin. Trinity College looks amazing! I would say bike would be a nice way to explore. Everything is pretty close by, but far enough that a bike could come in handy.
