A Day at Wynwood Walls in Miami, Florida

When I hear most people speak about Miami, they are usually referring to the nightlife and beaches. In particular the South Beach area. There are other areas to check out and Wynwood is certainly one. There are many places to eat, dine, drink, and of course check out some very cool street art!

The area was originally an industrial area. Although it still looks it, there are a ton of businesses all around. As I mentioned there are many places to get food. Some are more popular and talked about than others. My friends and I were pretty hungry and headed to the Wynwood Diner which is across the street from the Wynwood Walls.

From the outside we weren’t sure if we were making the right choice on going in. We even questioned if it was actually open. We didn’t judge the book by its cover and walked in with an open mind and we were delightfully happy at doing so. The nice cold air conditioning was the best relief from the very humid July weather in Miami.

The restaurant is a really nice size, with an entire back area. The booths are large and comfortably sat all 6 of us by the window. One of my friends wanted a cookies and cream shake. The rest wanted to drink. Wynwood Diner has a full bar so this wasn’t a problem.

My friends ordered burgers, pancakes, mac and cheese, and more. I ordered french toast with a bourbon creme anglaise and scrambled eggs. The food was delicious. The waiter was very attentive and answered any questions we had. If you are in the area, I would recommend you stop into the Wynwood Diner.

Once done we headed across the street to Wynwood Walls. It is free to enter and there are tons of really cool murals all around. 50 artists that represent 16 countries have murals there. There are 80,000 square feet of walls to enjoy. Each year there are new murals that are put up. So if you go back there should be something new to see.

We had a great time walking around and taking photos. You will see tons of people walking around the area doing photo shoots and such. It was disgustingly hot and began to drizzle while we walked around. It was more than welcome. We left the Wynwood Walls and began to walk around. The entire area has tons of street art everywhere. It is possible to walk around for hours so make sure you have comfortable shoes on.

After walking in the heat for a while we stopped at Cielito Artisan Pops. It is Miami’s first artisan ice pop spot. That have indoor and outdoor seating, but for the heat we didn’t want to be outside. If you come with your dog they have water bowls. They even have ice pops that are dog friendly. You can pretty much get all types of fruity or chocolate ice pops and even add toppings to it.

A couple of my friends decided to indulge and got passion fruit and a watermelon pop. The atmosphere inside was nice and they had little cups where we were drinking some water. There was also a gentleman who worked there who was telling us about the area. He directed us to where we could get some water, but did say it was a little hood.

Water was a must so we walked to the store to get some. My friends wanted to drink some more. I just wanted to sit down and be cool. We ended up going to Wynwood Yard which was pretty cool. It is outdoors, but they have enough fans to keep everyone cool. They also have a bar and food trucks all around.

The bar was severing $2 beers so my friend bought everyone a round. They have some great music there. It was very enjoyable. A couple of my friends checked out the food trucks and purchased buffalo mac and cheese, which I tried and it was so spicy. It began to pour rain, but we were covered at the Wynwood Yard. I really like the atmosphere and would go back here next time I was in the area.

We all really enjoyed our time in the Wynwood area. I would like to go back and see more artwork, especially since they change it. I would want to back when it is less humid because I wouldn’t wish that sticky heat feeling on anyone. Such a great time so I will be back!
