I like to try new places, especially when the menu looks appetizing. Browsing through the internet I discovered Mom’s Kitchen in Astoria, Queens. It has only been open for a few months and I wanted to check it out. What really grabbed my attention was the milkshakes.
Mom’s Kitchen is a bit off the beaten path of all the hustle and bustle of Astoria. Not too much though, just enough to actually find street parking. My initial reasoning for going there was to try a milkshake, but we ended up grabbing some food while there. There was indoor and outdoor seating, but since it was somewhat hot we opted to sit inside.

There weren’t that many people there considering it was a weekend, so we were seated right away. Looking at the menu it was a little difficult to decide what to eat. It sounded good, but I needed to make sure I had room for the real reason I wanted to go, the milkshakes. After a few minutes we ordered shrimp and grits and the chicken and waffle.

Some pretty good music was playing while we waited. Some songs I hadn’t heard in so long. The place looked really nice and very clean as I looked even more at the restaurant. Soon enough our food came. The consistency of the grits wasn’t something I was used to. It was still good and the shrimp was even better. The chicken and waffle were pretty good as well.

A couple came in and ordered some breakfast, but didn’t care for the eggs and ended up just leaving after they told the waitress. So I guess I won’t order that when I go back. After I finished eating I forced myself to order the milkshake with splitting it in mind. We were both pretty full.

After attempting to choose which one, I opted for the Mr. Fluffleupagus milkshake. It had a lot going on, but it tasted really good! I would happily go back to have that milkshake and try some others. It is also open late so that was a plus to go as well. If milkshakes aren’t your thing they do have a bar there. Whatever floats your boat!

September 23, 2016 at 6:42 AMI’m not really a grits fan. I don’t like mushy textures but those chicken and waffles look good. I’ll have to check this place out. I never really venture to Astoria much.
